Watts Next? Exploring Solar Energy's Impact on Nigerian Business

In recent years, renewable energy, especially solar energy has become a ray of hope in the quest for the sustainable development of various businesses. Solar energy has proven to have substantial benefits across various sectors. From fashion to agriculture, manufacturing, and retail, the integration of renewable energy presents opportunities for businesses to thrive while minimizing their carbon footprint.

In Nigeria, businesses suffer approximately $ 29 billion in losses annually. The main culprit -unstable electricity supply. Over the years Initiatives such as energy loans and grant applications for sustainable energy offer a transformative solution. By providing access to financing for renewable energy projects, businesses can invest in solar energy solutions to mitigate the impact of unreliable power grids.

These initiatives will aid businesses secure a stable and cost-effective source of electricity, reducing downtime, increasing productivity, and ultimately decreasing revenue losses.

After a recent impact survey carried out by Ceesolar, it was determined that the agricultural sector can largely benefit from solar energy or solar-powered solutions. e.g. solar-powered irrigation pumps can foster and improve agricultural activities by efficiently watering the crops and providing light for greenhouse plants. These sustainable solutions can help in reducing reliance on fossil fuel-powered pumps and minimize operational costs for farmers.

A typical example is the Dobi Agrico farm, located at gwagwalada which runs most of its operations during the day. The farm is currently benefiting from its solar investment. The impact of going renewable currently translates to about a 40% cost savings on the annual energy expenditure which was about 4,000,000 to 5,000,000 monthly.

For manufacturing companies and businesses, the adoption of renewable energy is important for activities such as cooling and heating, production as well as preservation, etc. It is no myth that businesses can benefit greatly in terms of reduced operating expenses and carbon emissions.

Mr. Abu (not his real name) a fashion designer at Corner Shop Gwarinpa spends about 200,000 to 250,000 on electricity monthly, he runs a 3.5kva generator that powers about four (4) out of nine (9) of his electric sewing machines, a ceiling fan, a pressing iron, and a few light bulbs. Implementing a 3.5kva to 5kva solar solution for Mr. Abu, will translate to cost savings on energy by about 30% to 40%. This solution will also increase productivity by powering even more electric machines.

By embracing renewable energy initiatives (solar energy), businesses can also attract environmentally conscious investors, and consumers, enhancing brand loyalty, and contributing to the global transition towards low-carbon footprints.

Ceesolar has constantly supported businesses in different sectors to achieve cost savings, and energy efficiency, thereby leading to revenue growth, increased efficiency, and business expansion.
